CoLab didn’t come from a business plan. It came from nearly a decade of doing the work.
It started with Black Panther Digital — a Cape Town digital studio founded by Philip McDonald in 2016. From day one, the work was real and the standards were senior. Delivering web design, development and digital infrastructure for South African businesses and brands — and ghost-building for award-winning agencies across the US and UK. Launching brands for founders who needed a crew they didn’t have to babysit, and delivering results for businesses that couldn’t afford to get it wrong.
For years, Black Panther Digital operated quietly — precisely. Behind the curtain. Under other people’s brands. Winning work that others got credit for. Learning exactly where agencies fail, where freelancers fall short and where the real gap lies.
